A Look Back at “Jericho”: A Gem from the 2000s That Left Us Too Soon

Oh man, taking it back to the 2000s with “Jericho”! This show, you guys, it’s one of those that I genuinely believe ended way before its time. If you haven’t stumbled across it yet, “Jericho” is this gripping TV series that first hit the small screen back in 2006. It revolves around the residents of the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, in the aftermath of nuclear attacks on 23 major cities in the contiguous United States.

Now, I’m all for trying out a range of shows, from rom-coms to thrillers, and “Jericho” really hit a sweet spot for me. It’s more than just a post-apocalyptic drama. It dives deep into themes of community, survival, and the human spirit. The characters are well fleshed out and relatable, making you root for them every step of the way. Jake Green, played by Skeet Ulrich (heart eyes), is especially compelling as he navigates his role in helping the town survive. The series does an excellent job of building tension and suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat and eagerly awaiting each new episode.

But alas, all good things come to an end, and in the case of “Jericho,” I’d argue it was too abrupt an end! It only got two seasons, and while the fan base isn’t massive, it’s definitely passionate. I’m part of the crew that wished the show went on for more seasons. The creators had so much more story to tell, and it’s a bummer we won’t get to see it unfold on screen.

Despite its short run, “Jericho” is definitely worth a watch (or a rewatch!). It’s engaging, thought-provoking, and filled with heart. In the vast landscape of TV shows, it stands out as a memorable journey into a world thrown into chaos, and the resilient town and people who strive to rebuild and persevere. Give it a try, I promise it’s worth your time. And who knows, maybe you’ll join the club of fans holding out hope for a revival.
