A Halloween Throwback: Night of the Living Dead 🧟‍♂️🎬

Hey there lovely people! 🌟 So, with Halloween fast approaching, I decided to embark on a horror movie marathon, starting with the classic, “Night of the Living Dead.”

I mean, what screams Halloween more than zombies, right?

Now, let’s get into it. George A. Romero’s 1968 “Night of the Living Dead” is indisputably one of the OG zombie films that set the stage for all the flesh-eating madness we know and love today. Watching it now, the eerie black-and-white cinematography definitely sets the mood, and the story is straightforward and gripping: the dead are coming back to life and a group of people are holed up in a farmhouse trying to survive the night. Classic horror movie setup!

What I enjoyed most about the movie was its raw tension.

You’re stuck with these characters in a farmhouse, and you feel their desperation, their fear, their hopelessness. It’s palpable and chilling. The acting? Hit or miss, but hey, it’s a classic horror film; a little over-the-top reaction is part of the fun!

However, compared to the high-octane zombie blockbusters today, it’s pretty tame and, dare I say, a bit sluggish.

The zombies are slow-moving, the makeup and effects are obviously outdated, and there’s none of that gut-wrenching gore that’s a staple in modern zombie flicks. It’s more suspenseful rather than terrifying. There are no fast zombies, no advanced CGI effects, and no elaborate fight scenes. It’s just pure, simple, undead terror.

It’s cool to see where the genre started, and it does make for a great Halloween movie night pick. It’s worth the watch for the nostalgia and the appreciation of the genre’s evolution. But if you’re in it for the blood-curdling scares and eye-popping effects, you might find it a bit lackluster.

All in all, I liked it. It’s a solid, classic horror film, but it’s not going to give you the kind of thrills and chills you might be craving. If you’re a horror aficionado and love catching up on classics, definitely give it a watch this Halloween season! 🎃👻

Till the next movie, XoXo 🖤
